My name is Yuzhen (Jane) Song, I'm from Tianjin, China. My grandparents are from Shanghai, the largest city in China and is named "East Paris". Tianjin is the third largest city in China and has a population of about 9.2 million.
Shanghai, Tianjin and Beijing (the capital in China and is
about 60 miles northwest of Tianjin) are the only three cities
under supervision by the central government.
I was born in Tianjin, which is the biggest sea port city in
northern China and is also the most important industrial and
commercial metropolis. My parents were both teachers. My
Father taught Physics in Tianjin Normal College and my
Mother taught Mathematics in Tianjin No.27 Middle School.
I have two older brothers, one younger sister and two
nephews. One is 23 years old is my brother's son and
the other is 16 years old is my sister's son.
I spent my Primary and High school and University life in Tianjin. My high school was a famous Catholic Church Girl's School, named St. Girl's School before liberation (1949). I finished my Junior and Senior High school study there.
I was very lucky to be in the first batch of Tianjin University
students after "Cultural Revolution" (1966-1976) by
passing formal university entrance exam in 1977. Tianjin
University (Originally Beiyang University) is the oldest
Engineering University in China. It was established in
1895. I attended it's Hundred Year Celebration in 1995.
It's first President was an American and his Chinese name
is Ding Jiali. I studied in the Department of Electronic
Engineering for four years and graduated in 1981 with a
Bachelor Degree of Engineering.
I was recommended by the University to take an exam at British Embassy and I was very lucky to be one of 5 from more than 80 students who were selected to go to Oxford for further study in 1986.
It was the first time in my life to leave my motherland to
travel and I arrived in the island country of England in the
Fall of 1986. I attended Marlborough Secretary College,
Oxford where I studied Business Management. I even
learned shorthand and secretarial skill. While I stayed
in England, I traveled and visited many places since England
has the reputation for being a "Museum Country". One year
later, I returned to Tianjin with another college diploma.
In 1989, I studied Japanese at Waseda University, Tokyo,
Japan for a half year. I traveled and visited many places in
Japan. On the way back home, I visited Hong Kong for one week.
In 1993, I was sent to America for production training for one month while I was a production manager at American company, Beijing McDonald's apple pie supplier. I traveled and visited Seattle, Tulsa, Los Angeles and Las Vegas during that time.
I came to St.Cloud State University (SCSU), near the Twin
Cities in Minnesota, for my Master's Degree in 1996,
majoring in Information Media (Human Resources,
Training & Development) with a special area of computer
based training.
After graduating, I worked at Komo Machine, St.Cloud in
1997 and started working at Northwest Airlines in 1998.
Tianjin is about 6,600 miles from Minnesota. I enjoy
working at Northwest Airlines because it allows me to go
back home and visit my family often. I love to travel, and
have been able to travel around the world, but I still have
much to learn about many places.
Bill and I were married in November 2001. On the following pages are our Wedding pictures and then some interesting pictures from at home, and of our travel across the USA, Canada, Latina America, Asia and Europe.
